2013 starts with a trip to Parkhead
Published : 31 Dec 2012 10:57:17
Motherwell start 2013 with a trip to the east end of Glasgow to face a Celtic side that heads the league by six points. Can we eat into their lead on Wednesday?
Given the fact that we haven’t taken a single point from Parkhead since the 0-0 in October 2009, it will come as no surprise that a Motherwell win can be had for 8/1 at a variety of bookmakers. Optimists in claret and amber will point out that St Johnstone, Kilmarnock, Inverness and Hibs have already beaten Celtic this season and that Motherwell are in goal scoring form at the moment with six in the last two games.A farewell goal on Wenesday?
Neil Lennon has stated that he has to “put square pegs in round holes” as a result of the number of injured players. Still, he was able to have the likes of Kayal, Watt and McCourt on the bench; no doubt Stuart McCall would love to have such a large squad.
The Motherwell squad should travel secure in the knowledge that a healthy league position and half a dozen goals in their last two games should give them some latitude. A relegation threatened side might be expected to turn up intent on packing their own defensive areas but thankfully we are not in that position. The home side will have most of the ball but we have players capable of making good use of the large playing surface. We must look to score.
If the game is to be Jamie's farewell to the few hundred who'll be in the cramped south east corner of the stadium then let's not leave empty handed. A win might be beyond us but a 1-1 would send us home happy.
