Morton 1-0 Partick: Match Report

22 February 2011 22:24
Cool Lyle boosts Morton Morton's Derek Lyle kept his cool from the penalty spot to seal a 1-0 victory over Partick. The striker's fourth goal of the campaign helped the `Ton leapfrog their visitors in the Scottish First Division. William Kinniburgh's handball in the box proved the turning point, with Lyle tucking home the subsequent penalty inside the opening 15 minutes. The closest Ian McCall's side came to an equaliser in a low-key first-half was when Iain Flannigan saw his 18-yard drive well blocked by Marc Smyth. Michael Tidser's curling long-range effort almost doubled the hosts' advantage in the closing stages, but they were happy to settle for their first clean sheet at home in over a month. The result means Thistle have failed to score in three meetings against Morton this season.
