Morocco to contest CAF punishments

Morocco have rejected the punishments imposed on them by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after they pulled out of hosting the African Nations Cup.

Equatorial Guinea stepped in at short notice to stage the tournament, which was won by the Ivory Coast on Sunday, after Morocco passed on the baton due to fears over the Ebola epidemic.

Last week the CAF banned Morocco from the next two African Nations Cups, fined national federation the FRMF one million US dollars (£656,000) and ordered a compensation payment of eight million euros (£5.9million) for losses sustained.

The FRMF has now said it "rejects all these sporting and financial sanctions" and will "take all necessary steps and measures to uphold the rights and interests of Moroccan football".

A statement from the FRMF read: "T he executive committee has expressed great surprise by the decisions by CAF, and asserts that they in no way reflect the findings of the prior meeting in Cairo with the president of the CAF."
