Valiants interested in defender

Earlier in the week, chairman Bill Bratt stated his interest in signing the Stoke-born player and Yates has expressed his intent in joining his hometown club. Speaking to The Sentinel, he said: "There are other clubs interested in me, but there is no way I want to sign for anybody else until I know what the situation is at Vale." Explaining the reason he prefers the Valiants, he continued: "A team, say from the south, could offer me double the money, but I would still rather play for Vale. I am from Stoke, so playing for the club would mean more to me than any other." The situation is dependent on who takes the Vale Park hotseat though and The Sentinel claims that both Micky Adams and John Ward, the favourites for the job, have held talks with Vale's prospective investors, Harlequins Property. The club have had around 35 applicants for the role and had reduced this list to just four, who were all interviewed. Two others, who are remaining anonymous, have since pulled out of the running leaving a head-to-head fight between Adams and Ward.
