Upturn delights Shrimps chief

Morecambe chief executive Rod Taylor is delighted with the way Sammy McIlroy has turned the club's season around.

At the turn of the year, the Shrimps looked set for a battle to avoid relegation, but a eight-game unbeaten run has lifted the club into the safety of mid-table.

An ecstatic Taylor said: "This is our best run in the Football League by a good way and it's been a tremendous series of results.

"The confidence has lifted in the squad. At the end of the game on Saturday it was difficult to pick a man-of-the-match because everyone played so well.

"The lads are producing consistent, solid performances with a never-say-die attitude. Even when they were 2-0 down at Grimsby last Tuesday, once we got the first goal back you thought we'd get something.

"We're just taking it a game at a time and keeping our feet on the ground. We've moved up quite a long way over the last few weeks but there's a gap between us and the play-off positions."Upturn
