Twiss may stay with Shrimps

Morecambe manager Sammy McIlroy has cooled reports linking Michael Twiss with a move to Bury.

The 30-year-old former Manchester United trainee has spent the last four years at Christie Park, featuring in 182 appearances for the Shrimps and playing a key role in the club's promotion to League Two in 2007.

Twiss held talks with Shakers boss Alan Knill last week but no deal could be agreed and McIlroy said: "Michael's been here a long time and has been a good servant to the club.

"Things didn't work out for him last year and he had a stop-go season with a few injuries as well.

"But if you bring players in then some have to leave. That isn't necessarily Michael Twiss, but if people come in for players, you have to look and analyse the situation.

"There are other players that did well to get us into the League, but they could be leaving because Morecambe have got to progress and move on."
