Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy has revealed that influential midfielder Michael Twiss is close to sealing a switch to League Two rivals Bury.
The 30-year-old former Manchester United trainee has spent the last four years at Christie Park, featuring in 182 appearances for the Shrimps and playing a key role in the club's promotion to League Two in 2007.
McIlroy said: "I have a policy of always telling players if clubs are interested in them.
"I told Michael about Bury's interest and he seemed very keen. He lives two minutes away from Gigg Lane and I'm sure that will be something that will interest him.
"He's been travelling up and down the motorway for five years now and that takes its toll on players. Michael had a difficult time of it last year and didn't play much football to be fair.
"At this stage of his career it's something that may give him a real lift and if he does sign for Bury we wish him all the best.
"He's been a great servant to Morecambe over the years but Bury would be ideal for him.''
