Thompson eyes shock win

Morecambe winger Garry Thompsonremains confident the Shrimps can defy the odds and clinch a place in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final at Wembley.

Sammy McIlroy's side lost the northern final first leg 1-0 to Grimsby Town at Christie Park and face the Mariners on their own pitch in next Tuesday's second leg.

A place in the Final against MK Dons seems unlikely, but Thompson sees reasons to be optimistic.

He told the Lancaster & Morecambe Citizen: "It's still game on when we go to Grimsby next week.

"They won 1-0 but that doesn't tell half the story. The tie could have been over by half-time. Their keeper made some unbelievable saves and we're far from downbeat.

"The gaffer wasn't too upset after the game and we know we can go there and get the win that we need - and we've done that already this season in the league."
