Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy praised the character of his side after they held promotion-chasing Chesterfield to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Matthew Blinkhorn's second-half equalised earned the Shrimps a point and left McIlroy proud of his charges.

"I was delighted with a point after a going a goal down," he said.

"I had to make a change at half-time and it was a tactical change to bring Jon Newby off and allow an extra player in midfield.

"The performance in the second half was super and I was delighted with the performance and the point.

"Matthew Blinkhorn scored a fantastic goal and I thought Damien Allen had a great game when he came on.

"We knew that Chesterfield were going to give it a real go and come out and fly at us, but we fought back well after a disappointing first half."
