Shrimps boss proud of resilient effort

Goals from Ian Harte and Vincent Pericard gave the Cumbrians a two-goal lead but Morecambe refused to lie down and Phil Jevons smashed home a 70th-minute volley to reduce the arrears. Midfielder Stewart Drummond was then sent off 10 minutes from time for kicking out at Carlisle substitute Adam Clayton, but fellow sub Mark Duffy rescued an unlikely replay five minutes from time with a 25-yard shot which squeezed just inside Lenny Pidgeley's right-hand post. "I'm very proud of my team. They fought for the full 90 minutes and were unfortunate to give away two poor goals from set-pieces," said McIlroy. "We had loads of first-half chances and our heads never dropped even after Carlisle's second goal. We kept going and got our reward. Phil's goal gave us the lift we wanted and the spirit running through the side is great at the moment." On Drummond's dismissal, McIlroy added: "Their boy kicked out first on the floor but the ref only saw the retaliation. He now misses three games which will hurt us."
