Shrimps beat Magpies for first win

Morecambe dominated the first half and took the lead after 35 minutes when skipper Jim Bentley headed home Ian Craney's left-wing corner. The Shrimps then made it 2-0 nine minutes after the break from another corner. Craney was again the creator with a near-post set-piece that was diverted by Paul Mullin into the top right-hand corner. The Magpies hit back when Ben Davies scored with a delightful shot, and the same player came close to a second moments later with a header that came back off the post with Barry Roche beaten. Substitute Craig Westcarr hit the inside of the post at the death and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was inches away from a stunning equaliser four minutes into injury time.
