Shrimps aim to keep Carlton

Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy is keen to extend Danny Carlton's loan stay with the club beyond its initial month.

The 24-year-old has made five appearances since returning to the Shrimps from Carlisle United and is likely to be allowed to remain at Christie Park over the bust festive period.

McIlroy told the Morecambe Citizen: "I am hoping to extend the loan, we will see what is happening from the Carlisle end.

"I am sure Danny will want to stay here if he is playing football.

"His work-rate is fantastic, as we know, and he has had a few opportunities to score, but he has not had a lot of football at Carlisle and needs a run of games to get match sharp again."
