The result halted the Shrimps' seven-match winning run, but McIlroy admitted that their League Two opponents had deserved their point. McIlroy said: "I'm happy to come away with a 1-1. I thought Grimsby played very well. "The conditions were a bit tragic but both teams had a real go. We scored to go 1-0 up and then Grimsby hit back with a wonder goal. "That's the first goal we have conceded in six games but it took a wonder goal to do it. They deserved something, Grimsby. I thought they played very well." McIlroy also hailed Barry Roche's performance at Blundell Park. He added: "Barry Roche showed why he is the best goalkeeper in the league and I thought the defence looked very solid."
