Rotherham 0-1 Morecambe: Report

02 April 2011 17:14
Millers slump continues Rotherham`s promotion hopes took another blow after a miserable home defeat to Morecambe. Rotherham hit the post and then had an effort cleared off the line inside the opening three minutes, before Marcus Marshall twice shot wide, goalkeeper Barry Roche saved at the feet of Adam Le Fondre, Nicky Law shot straight at Roche and Ryan Taylor had a header saved. At the other end Phil Jevons got in behind Rotherham's back four, but Andy Warrington saved, then Warrington saved well from Jimmy Spencer and Jevons had a shot tipped over the bar. But the worst miss was a header from Morecambe midfielder Garry Hunter. He headed into the ground and the ball went up and over the bar when it seemed he couldn't miss. In the second half the chances dried up, and a dour stalemate looked on the cards until eight minutes from the end when the visitors grabbed a winner. Kevan Hurst picked out Spencer just inside the area and his angled drive beat Warrington to probably put the final nail in Rotherham's promotion coffin.
