Mukendi sends Macc through

Vinny Mukendi's solitary goal gave Macclesfield their first win of the season against Morecambe in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. The teenager stole past the Morecambe defence in the 42nd minute to convert a Tyrone Barnett nod down with a powerful low drive. Morecambe had come against a brick wall in Macc keeper Jose Veiga, who made a succession of classy saves. In the 12th minute the Portuguese gloveman tipped a Darren Moss header over the bar, then just three minutes later he brilliantly pulled a low drive from Chris Shuker into his chest. Macc should have scored after 27 minutes but Barnett headed onto the crossbar from four yards. After the break Morecambe wasted another golden opportunity when Shuker snapped a close-range shot onto the post with Paul Mullin tackled by Pau Morgan on the line. Macclesfield might have added another goal at the death when Barnett outpaced the defence only to send a low drive inches wide from 15 yards.
