Drummond set for farewell

Stewart Drummond will bring the curtain down on his playing career when Morecambe entertain Southend at the Globe Arena.

It was announced this week that the 39-year-old midfielder would bow out of the professional game and, although he has only made 14 appearances this term, Shrimps boss Jim Bentley has promised him a swansong when the Shrimpers come to town.

Defender Ryan Edwards' back injury will be assessed, although there is no need to rush him into action again if he is not fully fit as Morecambe have just a top-10 finish left to aim for.

Midfielder Ryan Williams (hernia) remains out while Barry Roche (hip) was left off the bench last time out after suffering a setback to his long-term problem.

In-form Southend will be at virtually full strength as they look to record the victory which would take them into Sky Bet League One.

The Shrimpers, who have won seven on the trot and have not conceded in their past eight fixtures, have a two-point lead over fourth-placed Bury, who visit Tranmere, and a three-point advantage over Wycombe.

Boss Phil Brown expects Jake Cassidy to be okay despite the fact the striker has missed some training sessions this week with illness.

Were Cassidy to declare himself fully fit, that would leave Adam Thompson (shoulder) as the only absentee as John White (hip) has trained all week and Ben Coker, dismissed against Luton last time out, won his appeal against his suspension.
