Spencer boost for Shrimps Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy has two new signings at his disposal for the home clash with Macclesfield. Andrew Houldsworth, who was released from Oldham, and Kevan Hurst, on-loan from Carlisle, have both signed until the end of the season and are included in the squad. Striker Jimmy Spencer is also set to return after a three-match suspension. McIlroy is keen to replace Mark Duffy after the winger sealed a switch to Championship side Scunthorpe last week. His efforts have yet to come to fruition with the transfer deadline on January 31. Yet McIlroy said: "It's been a bit frustrating so far but I have identified a couple of players and have been talking to clubs and agents and we will just keep working hard to sort a deal out." Defender Paul Scott remains absent as he recovers from a knee operation and midfielder Garry Hunter is also set to miss out with a knee injury. Macclesfield boss Gary Simpson has been boosted for the trip after Dan Gray extended his loan from Chesterfield until the end of the season. Goalkeeper Jack Cudworth is expected to be fit after missing Tuesday`s 4-1 defeat at Southend with a back strain and Carl Tremarco and Shaun Brisley remain sidelined with hip injuries. Simpson, meanwhile, remains keen to bring in a striker before the transfer window closes. The Silkmen have gone eight matches without a win, and Simpson said: "I've been trying to bring someone in to get a few goals and ease some of the pressure on the forwards. "Financially it's been a struggle because even some fringe players at this level, the players who are available, are on well above what we can afford."
