Shrimps ease past 10-man County

Four second-half goals earned Morecambe a second successive victory as they sealed a league double over 10-man Newport courtesy of a 4-1 triumph.

The night started poorly once again for Jim Bentley's side after Tom Naylor gave the visitors the lead with a 13th-minute goal. A right-wing corner was met by Newport defender Harry Worley, whose first effort was blocked only for the ball to find Naylor and he scored from close range.

Morecambe wasted two glorious chances to level in the first half, with Jack Sampson and Andy Fleming failing to find the target from good openings.

But the game changed direction after 57 minutes when Naylor was then sent off after bringing down Kevin Ellison in the penalty area when he was the last defender.

Jamie Devitt duly scored from the spot and Morecambe then went on a goal spree, with Ellison putting the Shrimps ahead after rounding goalkeeper Ian McLoughlin just after the hour mark.

Shrimps substitute Jack Redshaw then clinched the game for the home side with a header from 18 yards after 72 minutes from a Fleming corner.

That was followed by a cool finish seven minutes from time when Redshaw took the ball 12 yards out and drilled a low shot past McLoughlin to give Bentley's side a comfortable three points, coming after their 3-2 victory over County earlier in the season.
