Shrimps cruise past Hatters

Morecambe maintained their good run of form against the league's top sides with a convincing 3-0 win over 10-man Luton.

Two first half goals from Kevin Ellison and Mark Hughes, and a red card for visiting skipper Steve McNulty gave Morecambe, who were without ill boss Jim Bentley, a fine three points.

Morecambe took the lead in the 16th minute after a well worked free-kick. Jamie Devitt drilled the ball to the far post, Alex Kenyon headed back across goal and Ellison drilled the ball into the bottom left hand corner of Mark Tyler's goal from 10 yards out.

Luton's hopes of an immediate reply were given a setback when they lost skipper McNulty to a red card after he picked up two bookings in the space of two minutes.

Morecambe took advantage of the extra man to dominate the rest of the half and added a second on the stroke of half time when Hughes headed home Shaun Beeley's cross past Tyler from six yards out.

Jamie Devitt had a golden chance to make it three in injury time but dragged a shot wide from the edge of the area when he had more time.

The second half started with Mark Cullen forcing Morecambe keeper Scott Davies into a good save at his near post but the home side dominated with Tyler making two fine saves to deny Ellison a second.

The Shrimps added a third nine minutes from time when Padraig Amond scored from close range. A Devitt corner was headed down and the Morecambe substitute turned ther ball, home from six yards out.
