Own goal inspires Shrimps victory

A late Oliver Risser own goal sent Morecambe on their way to a 2-1 victory over struggling Aldershot.

The midfielder's misfortune was compounded by another goal by Gary McDonald before Danny Hylton scored a last-minute consolation.

Morecambe had gone close to opening the scoring in the first half when Nick Fenton headed against a post after Hylton had missed a glorious chance for the Shots to take the lead on 28 minutes.

The drab match came to life after 72 minutes when Aldershot midfielder Risser headed a Stewart Drummond lay off past his own goalkeeper from six yards out.

The Shots then left gaps as they chased a much needed point and they were made to pay as Jim Bentley's side doubled their advantage on 85 minutes.

Ryan Williams' shot from the edge of the area was superbly saved by Jamie Young, but the ball rebounded into the path of Morecambe midfielder Gary McDonald who dived to head home from close range.

Hylton gave the Shots a late consolation with a 92nd-minute goal after a neat exchange of passes on the edge of the Morecambe area.
