Gulls continue to soar

Torquay maintained their excellent run of form with a 2-1 victory over Morecambe at a windswept Globe Arena.

Goals from Mark Ellis after 17 minutes and Danny Stevens' 81st-minute clincher gave the Gulls a third successive away win since the start of the year to keep their play-off hopes very much alive.

Central defender Ellis scored from close range after a header from Ian Morris' corner was only half cleared by the home side.

Stevens scored the winner from close range against the run of play after an initial shot fell into his path.

Morecambe hit back with a Will Haining drive that was turned past Bobby Olejnik from close range with two minutes to go.

And Nick Fenton came close to completing a dramatic comeback with an injury-time overhead kick that was well saved by Olejnik, but the visitors held on for another three points - taking their tally to 29 from the last 36 on offer.
