Carlton steals three points for Shrimps

Danny Carlton earned Morecambe their fourth home win of the season with the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory over Macclesfield.

Gary Hunter and Stewart Drummond both tried their luck without success in the first half for the hosts before Carlton scored with a close-range header after 53 minutes, after Macclesfield keeper Jose Veiga had saved Gary McDonald's excellent low drive.

Morecambe had chances to win the game by a greater margin but Phil Jevons wasted two glorious late opportunities to widen the advantage, and the home side were almost made to pay as the Silkmen staged a late rally.

George Donnelly's 20-yard attempt was well saved by Morecambe's debutant keeper Chris Kettings, while Donnelly also saw two goalbound efforts blocked by home defenders before Ben Tomlinson went close.

Tony Diagne was then denied an injury-time equaliser by a stunning save from the impressive Kettings, who flicked a close-range volley onto a post to ensure the Shrimps registered a home win for the first time since the end of October.
