Amond the hero for Shrimps

Padraig Amond scored the only goal to give Morecambe victory in their eagerly contested local derby with Fleetwood.

Amond scored the only goal of the game in the 18th minute with his seventh goal of the season after he ghosted into the Fleetwood penalty area to head a Robbie Threlfall cross past Scott Davies from 12 yards out.

Jack Redshaw then had a golden chance to make it 2-0 in the 24th minute when the ball fell to him on the edge of the Fleetwood penalty area but the normally reliable frontman skewed his shot well wide.

From there the visitors began to hold the upper hand and should have levelled when defender Mark Roberts evaded his marker to get on to the end of Stewart Murdoch's free-kick but could only head straight at Barry Roche.

Graham Alexander's side continued to ask all the questions as the half came to a close with Gareth Evans forcing a fine save from Roche and Antoni Sarcevic drilling a shot inches wide in injury time after a well worked free-kick.

The second half belonged to Fleetwood and they almost snatched a draw deep in injury time when Mark Roberts diverted a shot on goal but Morecambe skipper Mark Hughes cleared off the line.
