U's end long wait for win

Goals from Ryan Donaldson and Jordan Slew gave Cambridge their first win in 10 games with a comfortable 2-0 victory over a poor Morecambe.

Donaldson gave Cambridge the lead on the stroke of half time and Slew added a second just before the our mark to secure a much-needed win for Richard Money's men.

Morecambe started brightly with Jack Redshaw and Ryan Williams driving efforts wide within the first two minutes.

But from there it was Cambridge who looked the more lively with Matt Harrold forcing Andreas Arestidou into a save with a 21st-minute shot before the U's scored the all important first goal.

Richard Tait crossed from the right and Donaldson was given the freedom of the Morecambe six-yard box to dive in and head home at the far post.

Morecambe hit back with Ryan Williams forcing a superb save from Chris Dunn at the start of the second period but their pressure was short lived and the U's doubled their advantage in the 59th minute.

A Morecambe attack was cleared and Slew, who was allowed a free run on goal, produced a fine finish to beat the advancing Arestidou from 12 yards.

Morecambe substitute Andy Fleming missed an open goal 10 minutes from time and any hopes of a home comeback were dashed.
