McIlroy upbeat despite away defeat

Published: 21 Mar 2010 - 14:27:27

The in-form Cobblers scored in each half to dent Morecambe's chances of reaching the top six but McIlroy had no complaints. "I've no complaints about the result, three games in a week have taken their toll but I can't fault the player's efforts, " said the Morecambe boss. "But Northampton are a very good side, they're on an excellent run and I'm sure they'll be up there at the end of the season. "We had a go but if I'm brutally honest we were off key in the final third. Our play fizzled out around the box and we didn't force their keeper to make a save. "But for Morecambe to be talked about as possible play-off candidates shows how far we've come in three years. We need to see how many points we can pick up between now and the end of the season. That's all I ask of my players and I'm sure they'll give it a go."
