McIlroy had Shrimps belief

Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy claimed he had every confidence his side would triumph on penalties against Oldham Athletic in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Stewart Drummond's second-half equaliser had taken the tie against League One opposition at Boundary Park into extra-time before the Shrimps' shoot-out success.

"When it goes to penalties I'm quite confident," said McIlroy. "The players who put them away last year did it again right up until we missed a couple.

"Everyone played their part tonight. It was a great fighting performance, especially in the second half when I thought we were excellent."
