McIlroy aims to climb league table

Published: 18 Oct 2009 - 15:31:06

The Shrimpers registered their ninth stalemate in 13 League Two games after an entertaining 2-2 draw at Plainmoor. Goals from Morecambe's Mark Duffy and Paul Mullin cancelled out Nicky Wroe's penalty before substitute Wayne Carlisle salvaged a point for the Gulls. McIlroy said: "We did enough to win the game. My lads worked 100%, going 2-1 up, we just could not hold on to the lead long enough to calm the game down. But their effort was fantastic. "We kept going, it was an entertaining game. Torquay had a go, we had a go. I just thought it says it all that their goalkeeper gets man of the match. At least we got shots on target and he dealt with them very well. "We have got two home games now and if we can take that sort of performance into the two home games then I'm sure we can move up the table."
