McIlroy accepts Thommo exit

Morecambe manager Sammy McIlroy has wished Garry Thompson the best of luck in the future, with the winger set to leave Christie Park.

The 27-year-old is set to leave the Shrimps to join Scunthorpe United, having played a major part in the club's rise out of the non-league ranks.

McIlroy told The Visitor: "I think we have lost him. That is disappointing but I wish him all the best.

"He has done a great job for me and he has enjoyed it here. Now I am looking forward to seeing how his career progresses.

"I have no doubt that he will make the step up in League One. He is a big, strong boy and is a matchwinner.

"He is in the prime of his career and can kick on and flourish."
