McIlroy abandons mystery pursuit

The Shrimps revealed that both parties had failed to agree over the unnamed player's contract. McIlroy told the club's official website: "He was a player who I know could do a good job for us but we weren't prepared to meet the terms he wanted and will continue to look elsewhere." Morecambe vice-chairman Graham Hodgson previously admitted that talks had stalled and that the club were "a bit away from doing a deal".
