McIlroy: We should have won

Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy admitted his frustration after Gillingham hit back to earn a 1-1 draw at the Globe Arena. A late goal from Danny Spiller earned the Gills a deserved point at the Globe Arena. Midfielder Spiller netted with a late header after a vicious Chris Palmer free-kick to cancel out Craig Stanley's goal for the Shrimps. After seeing his side let a lead slip for the second league game in succession, McIlroy said: "The conditions were difficult and I have to say Gillingham handled them better than us. "We were grateful to Barry Roche for making a host of fabulous saves once again but once we got ahead I thought we were going to win and I'm really disappointed that we didn't see things through again. "The conditions were difficult and we couldn't get our passing game together as well as we have in recent weeks but the effort and commitment was certainly there against a strong Gillingham side who caused us problems. It's disappointing not to get our first win but it is a long season and I know things will get a lot better."
