McIlroy slams indisciplined Shrimps

Morecambe manager Sammy McIlroy believes his side's lack of discipline was their downfall as they lost 2-1 at home to Accrington. The visitors took the lead as skipper Phil Charnock scored a 17th-minute penalty. Chris McCready levelled eight minutes later with his first goal for the Shrimps, but Jimmy Ryan fired a stunning shot from 25 yards to seal the win for Stanley. McIlroy said: "The winning goal was a joke and it was the sort of goal we`ve been conceding far too often this season. We gave him far too much time on the ball to do what he wanted, and although we were a bit unlucky because the ball took a deflection, we shouldn't have put ourselves in that position. "But that has been the story of our season. We`re not learning from our mistakes and it`s time the players accepted their responsibilities. "We have too many players making mistakes at vital times and because of that we are just too inconsistent and can't get our season going. "I am the manager and I take responsibility, but the players need to look at themselves and look at where they need to improve as well."
