McIlroy shock as Shrimps slump

Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy was furious with his side's shocking start as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Stevenage. Stevenage stormed into a two-goal lead, with a goal Scott Laird and an own-goal from Kieran Charnock in the first eight minutes, and the home defence comfortably kept Morecambe at bay for the rest of the match. McIlroy said: "The game was over after 10 minutes. The goals we conceded were absolutely shocking and you just can't give sides two goals start at this level. We were awful and they could have scored more in the first half we were that bad. "I wasn't expecting it because we have been playing so well in recent weeks and we were well below par in this one. "The only thing I can take from the game is that we were much better in the second half. "We showed a bit of spirit and put them under a bit of pressure without testing their goalkeeper enough."
