McIlroy left to rue late Macc attack

Stewart Drummond and Will Haining put the visitors ahead after Craig Lindfield had given the Silkmen the lead, only for Ricky Sappleton to rescue the draw with a late volley.

McIlroy, returning to his former club, believed the Shrimps could have stolen it at the death when a David Artell header was cleared off the line by Carl Tremarco.

"It's always a difficult place to come here and in the first half we simply didn't put any pressure on them," he said.

"I had to have a few words at half time and they responded magnificently with two great goals.

"I felt we could have won the game and there was a big question over Artell's header at the end which was apparently a foot over the line, but unfortunately we didn't get the decision."
