Massive blow for McLachlan

Morecambe manager Sammy McIlroy has been stunned by the news that midfielder Fraser McLachlan could be out for the season.

McLachlan twisted his knee in the opening stages of the Shrimps' 2-2 draw with Hereford United on Saturday.

Though an early prognosis suggested he may be shelved for three weeks, scans revealed ligament damage which will spell a lengthy period on the sidelines.

The 26-year-old became a regular figure in McIlroy's side last season, featuring in 30 matches.

"It's a massive blow for Fraser and the club," McIlroy told the Visitor.

"Two years ago he missed the whole season after breaking his leg and it looks like the same could happen again.

"I'm devastated for the lad and he doesn't deserve that sort of luck.

"He is a real worker in midfield, breaking attacks up and protecting the back four and had a big part to play in our season."
