Mac hails Shrimps success

Morecambe manager Sammy McIlroy was delighted to see his side beat Hartlepool United as well as the terrible weather conditions in Tuesday's northern semi-final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

The Shrimps secured victory thanks to a penalty shoot-out success in appalling wet and windy weather.

McIlroy said: "I'm delighted for the lads. They did marvellously well, especially with the conditions. It was horrible.

"It's a great achievement to go there and get the win and it's special to reach a semi-final.

"We have a few injuries, but that's when the squad comes into play."
