Lloyd ends Shrimps stay

Morecambe have agreed a settlement with Paul Lloyd to release the winger from his contract.

Lloyd has been dogged by injuries over the past two seasons and has found his first-team opportunities hard to come by.

With the end of his contract approaching in May, Shrimps manager Sammy McIlroy felt it was best for the player to move on for the sake of his career.

"Paul's been a good player to have around but he's really suffered from injuries," he said.

"We're allowing him to leave now in an effort to try and set himself up with a club for next season.

"He's a great lad and we all wish him well for the future."

More players could follow Lloyd out of Christie Park, as the club are desperate to cut their wage bill.

The club has been placed under a transfer embargo due to overspending and cannot bring any new players in until the wage bill is reduced accordingly.
