Lillis laments Shrimps trophy exit

The Cumbrians won 4-2 on penalties after they trailed 2-1 with just two minutes to go. Veteran Graham Kavanagh gave them a lifeline with his second goal of the game with a close-range header to set up the spot-kick shoot-out. Adam Collin saved penalties from Wayne Curtis and Mark Duffy to send the Cumbrians through after Garry Hunter and Curtis had twice given Morecambe the lead, only for Kavanagh to equalise on both occasions. Lillis said: "The lads were devastated at the end because they were so close to winning the game. With two minutes to go we should have seen the game out but we made it too easy for them. We had a free-kick moments before they scored and instead of keeping possession we gave it away and that wasn't good. "We like this competition and we wanted to do well in it and we are all pretty unhappy we didn't take advantage of the start we gave ourselves."
