Embargo lifted on Shrimps
13 Feb 2009 - 14:05:08
Morecambe have revealed that the Football League transfer embargo placed on them has now been lifted.
The Shrimps were hit with sanctions last month after it was revealed they had spent more than 60 per cent of their turnover on players' wages.
The coffers at the League Two club have been boosted by the recent sale of their Christie Park ground to Sainsbury's.
"We've been in discussion with the Football League for a few weeks about lifting the embargo but it's taken a while because a number of considerations had to be taken into account," said vice-chairman Graham Hodgson.
"We've heard today that the embargo has been lifted and we're delighted.
"We'd like to thank the finance department of the Football League for their help and their sensible and pragmatic view of the situation.
"We've liaised with (manager) Sammy McIlroy on a daily basis about the situation regarding the embargo and he's been working hard on identifying a midfield player to come in loan after the recent injuries to Craig Stanley and Fraser McLachlan which have left us low in numbers in that department.''
