Edwards tucks into Shrimps yet again

Accrington defender Phil Edwards has a habit of scoring against Morecambe as he made it four goals in as many games against them in a 1-1 draw at the Crown Ground. Edwards slotted home a 73rd-minute penalty to give both mid-table sides a point in this local derby. Edwards sent his spot-kick straight down the middle after former Reds man Kieran Charnock was adjudged to have fouled striker Terry Gornell. Morecambe had taken the lead just seven minutes earlier when a Tony Capaldi long throw was only half cleared and it came out to Phil Jevons on the edge of the area, who hit the ball low and hard into the bottom corner for his seventh goal of the season. The game livened up after the break following a dour first half, although Shrimps keeper Barry Roche did pull off two good early saves while Jevons clipped the bar and Andy Parrish had a header cleared off the line before the break. Both sides upped the tempo after the interval with Ray Putterill and Edwards bringing the best out of Roche, while Charnock came close to making amends at the other end but was inches wide with his effort.
