Duffy catches McIlroy's eye

Morecambe manager Sammy McIlroy is keen to bring Southport midfielder Mark Duffy to Christie Park but will have to offload a couple of players first.

If Duffy does move to the club he will not be the first player to arrive from the Sandgrounders, following Carl Baker's successful switch in the summer of 2007.

McIlroy said: "We're interested in the boy but people have to leave the club first.

"I have to get people out on loan or people out on permanent deals and I'm still working on that."

Meanwhile, Dan Smith has returned to Plymouth Argyle after failing to impress during his loan spell with the Shrimps.

McIlroy added: "He has great ability but his size was a bit of a hindrance. He's trying to build himself up and we will monitor that situation in the future."
