Defender expresses McIlroy relief

Media speculation suggested Cork were eager to lure McIlroy to the Eircom League outfit, but Artell insists the move would have been the wrong decision. "This last week has seen speculation about the gaffer going to Cork City," Artell told the Morecambe Visitor. "I don't know much about the League of Ireland but I think it would have been a step backwards. "It was a non-starter because the Chairman didn't allow Cork to speak to the gaffer and I'm not sure he would have wanted to go anyway. "He's recently signed a contract extension and I'm sure he wants to take Morecambe Football Club even further."
