Cork fail in McIlroy approach

Morecambe have turned down an approach from Cork City to speak to boss Sammy McIlroy about their vacant position as manager.

Shrimps chief executive confirmed Cork's approach on the club's official website.

He said: "We had a phone call from Cork City asking if they could speak to Sammy about their manager's position, but we have denied them permission to approach him."

Morecambe lie in 16th position in League Two. McIlroy is understood to be frustrated at the prohibition of transfer activity at the club, after the Shrimps were placed under a transfer embargo due to overspending on their wage bill.

McIlroy recently signed a contract extension at the club to keep him at Christie Park until the end of the 2009-10 season.
