Carr ready to battle for spot

New Morecambe recruit Michael Carr has revealed his determination to secure a first-team place at Christie Park.

Defender Carr, 24, moved from non-league Northwich Victoria on a free transfer this summer - becoming Sammy McIlroy's first off-season signing.

"Pre-season's a lot harder than it was at Northwich," said Carr.

"It's a lot more professional. We're doing double sessions every day, so it's taking a lot out of you.

"But it's going to help you for the season ahead, and hopefully around Christmas time we'll start feeling the benefits of that."

Carr went on to explain that he knows there is a fight for places, a battle he is willing to take on.

"I know nobody's place is safe because of the competition here, but that's a nice position to be in," he added.

"You just have to try your hardest to make sure you stake your claim for a place early on."
