Boss rues below-par performance

Published: 18 Jan 2009 - 18:30:29

Curtis Weston's second goal of the season after 18 minutes was enough to earn the Gills a vital away win and secure a double over Morecambe this season. McIlroy said: "We played some good stuff in terrible conditions, particularly in the second half, but we didn't make the most of the possession we had. "I was very disappointed with the way we didn't test their keeper, especially when we had the wind behind us in the second half. He made one superb save but apart from that we didn't make him work hard enough and we need to do better than that." McIlroy felt his side had not been helped by a two-week rest after recent cancellations. He added: "We started slowly and it took us a while to get into the game. Unfortunately by that time we were 1-0 down and we couldn't get back into it."
