Achilles woe for Wainwright

An Achilles injury has ended Morecambe midfielder Neil Wainwright's season.

The former Darlington star has been struggling with the problem for several weeks and has had to be substituted at half-time in each of the Shrimps' last two league games.

Boss Sammy McIlroy told the club's website: "It's a big blow for us and for Neil. Being the lad he is, he's been desperate to play through the pain and he's done well despite suffering.

"He's been one of our most consistent players in the past few months and has done a great job for us.

"But we don't want him to make things any worse because we want to make sure he's ready for the pre-season.''
