Accrington Stanley 1-1 Morecambe: Report

Derby spoils shared at Crown Ground

Danny Carlton rescued a point for Morecambe in a 1-1 draw at local rivals Accrington.

Peter Murphy had given the Reds the lead when he headed home Bobby Grant's cross from close range in the 14th minute.

Stanley should have had more in a first half they dominated as Shrimps stopper Barry Roche denied Grant and Jamie Devitt with his legs while tipping a free-kick over the bar from the latter.

Stuart Drummond went closest for the visitors but was denied by Stanley keeper Lee Nicholls' acrobatics.

But Morecambe, who like Stanley are chasing a late charge for the play-offs, upped the tempo after the break

And after a long goalkick from Roche, opposite number Nicholls collided with his own defender Toto Nsiala on the edge of the area and ball broke for Carlton to chip into the empty net from 15 yards out and salvage a point.

Stanley, with four late goals in their last four games, could have snatched it at the end but Roche did well to deny substitute Will Hatfield from close range.
