Montrose captain Paul Watson missing for Arbroath clash

Montrose host Arbroath in an Angus derby and they are again without their captain Paul Watson.

Watson has a stomach muscle injury while Andrew Steeves and Ross McCord are absent with knee problems.

Gable Endies manager Paul Hegarty said: "At the start of the season we were on a good run which included a 3-0 win over Arbroath at Links Park. Injuries to experienced players have hampered us in the last couple of months, however it would be great to start 2016 with another win over our local rivals.

"If we are to succeed then we need to defend better than we did at Elgin last weekend."

Arbroath hope to include former Hamilton Accies striker Andy Ryan for the third and final time as a trialist, however the injured Sergio Alvarez (hamstring) and Craig Johnstone (knee) remain out.

The 3-0 reverse at Montrose back in August still irks Gayfield manager Todd Lumsden, who said: "That game still remains sore as it was an occasion that we simply never turned up for. We won the next meeting at our place but it never made up for it and the players will be reminded that we still owe our fans.

"Hopefully we can win this one and make that game an even more distant memory."
