Montrose close gap behind Elgin City after claiming comfortable win
Graham Webster and Gary Fraser were once again on the scoresheet as Montrose earned a 2-0 win over Elgin City to move level with their opponents on nine points in the League Two table.
Webster took his tally for the campaign to three goals when he headed home Ross McCord's pass to put Montrose ahead in the 36th minute.
Gavin Malin came close to doubling Montrose's lead just before the break with a shot that was parried by Elgin goalkeeper Mark Hurst, but the hosts would not be denied a second goal with Fraser netting on the hour.
McCord was again involved as 21-year-old Fraser got on the end of the midfielder's pass to fire in his fourth goal of the campaign.
Elgin, who started the day level on points with East Fife at the top of the standings, could find no way back after that as Montrose picked up their third win.
