Six of the best see Elgin second

Elgin moved into second place in the Scottish Third Division after an emphatic display, beating Montrose 6-1 at Borough Briggs.

Stuart Leslie gave the home side the advantage after just 22 minutes with a left-footed strike from six yards.

The home side doubled their lead when Moore netted his fourth goal of the season on 35 minutes, finishing emphatically from close range.

Elgin all but sealed the three points before half-time with Leslie grabbing his second of the game after turning in Brian Cameron's cross inside the penalty area.

David Gray gave the visitors hope when he converted a penalty in the 58th minute following a handball from Elgin defender Sean Crighton.

But Mark Nicolson ended any hope of a Montrose revival when his left-footed strike found the top corner from 25 yards, before Leslie completed his hat-trick with 20 minutes to go after finishing from close range.

Ceiran McLean's right-footed strike from close range added gloss to the scoreline, piling more misery on Montrose, who still await their first away win of the season.
