Arbroath 4-1 Montrose: Report

23 April 2011 20:54
Rovers seal title glory Arbroath sealed the Scottish Third Division title, the first honour in their 133-year history, after an emphatic 4-1 win over local rivals Montrose at Gayfield Park. They took the lead after just five minutes, Steven Doris powering home a penalty after he himself was fouled by Sean Crighton. It was 2-0 a minute before half-time as Josh Falkingham took Keith Gibson's long ball before slotting home from close range. Arbroath's player-boss Paul Sheerin then netted a fitting third after 61 minutes with an easy finish. Terry Masson pulled one back for Montrose 20 minutes from time, volleying home from Christopher Hegarty's cross. But it was the Red Lichties day and they made it 4-1 in the 90th minute, Adam Strachan scoring from inside the box.
